Life goes on in Woop Woop but changes are afoot...

 POMGONEWALKABOUT
Eric Cullen, age 47 and still very much a young boy at heart. He's a product of the 1960’s, born of English parentage in the midlands town of Loughcaster. Eric emigrated to Australia in march 1990 and got a job working in Television. He met an English nurse and for 15 years they lived together in the beautiful harbour side city of Sydney.
Because of their love of travel, Land Rovers and the bush, the decision to skip the bright lights and head for the outback was easy. Along the way they heard the little patter of tiny paws as two became three with the addition of Banjo a slightly demented 8 week old headstrong but very lovable yellow Labrador puppy (Most Lab owners will agree that demented is normal).   Flying in to Adelaide again was a real shock to the system; the light it was so bright, the sky so blue and it was hot! I forgot just how blue the skies are, no need for a polarising filter out here.
My senses had obviously been numbed by forty fours days’ exposure to drab overcast low skies and English weather. Wintertime in dear old Blighty a time of the year where it is still dark at 8am and dark again by 3pm. Cosy.
Prolonged exposure to the cold wet dark and miserable. I loved every minute of it. Sad farewells, holiday over. Flight okay, back downunder once again. Home where’s home? Home is where the heart is, well mines split in two. Woop Woop was still a 600km and 6 hour journey away so we decided to weekend in Adelaide to get over the jetlag.
Adelaide in summer can be a stinking hot place, but it’s still my favourite Australian metropolis. More laid back and unlike in NSW where RSL and bowling clubs reign supreme, South Australia thankfully still has a great pub culture. It’s disgusting there’s almost a pub on every corner here in Adelaide.
Adelaide, the home of Cooper’s. Still family owned and along with Theakstones is my favourite beer. Oh look there’s the Stag Hotel let’s call in for one it’d be rude not to. We were still on holiday after all. Some of the best restaurants in Adelaide can be found on Gouger Street. Like Thai food? Then try “The Star of Siam” You’ll probably need to book. The Adelaide Central markets on a Saturday morning, reminds me of Covent Gardens, full of fresh local produce. Café Zedz does the best breakfast, sorry Mam but they do.

Their Works breakfast, its spot on. The freshest yolkiest eggs from Kangaroo Island eggs, bacon, Tomatoes, Sausage, beans, Turkish bread, I’m salivating as I write.
If there's one thing that will lesson the pain of saying farewell to your family in England, it’s a weekend in Adelaide with a bit of retail therapy, fine food and wine. Beer did I mention beer?
We always stay at the Hotel 208 on South Terrace just ask for a Queens superior room. Saturday morning we take a walk to Café Zedz in the Central markets for breakfast. Call in at Grenfell Hifi to pick up a Bose SoundDock for our Ipod. The English nurse gets a hair cut on Hutt Street. Next up, a walk along Rundle Mall the main shopping area, it’s full of interesting characters, remember to keep an eye out for Johnny Wiseman. A beer in the stag and back to the hotel to shower and change. A couple of pre dinner drinks round the corner in the Coopers Alehouse on Pulteney street, followed by a walk to Gouger Street and dinner at the Star of Siam.
Australia. The lucky country eh!

Time to crank up the Defender, head north , pick up Banjo and head home to Woop Woop.
