A warm Luffbra, Loughcaster
even Loughborough welcome to my online exhibition of over 60 images that I
snapped around the local area in the 1980's.
My name is Eric and Loughborough is my
birthplace and was my home for thirty years before I managed to escape
to a new life downunder. I'm not really sure that "Escape" is the
correct term as I hold fond memories of the place, always will. You can take the boy out of
Loughborough but you can't take Loughborough out of the boy, many
Doctors have tried but all have failed!
I was born in 1960 in a terrace street within window
rattling range of the "Master Cutler" as it sped through Loughborough
Great Central station. I spent the most happiest years of my life
there and at
Cobden Infant and Junior school. Garendon and Burleigh? Well put it
this way! At least I showed up. Aged sixteen I rode off Thorpe Acre
Hill and into the sunset on my Yamaha Fizza leaving my schooldays
far behind. I secured an apprenticeship at a
TV rental company in the town.
I played football in the local Charnwood
Sunday morning league and settled down with a girl that I met up
Sammy's nightclub Didn't we all?
A house in Hathern, a steady job but
it wasn't enough and a new life downunder beckoned. Australia a land
of opportunity, a job in Television working with the stars and now a
life travelling the outback with an English nurse. No gold watch for
me, no lifetime spent down the Brush, but good luck to all those of
you that do.
I have my own website
Pomgonewalkabout.com
the above
links will also take you there. Please take a look but remember to
come back and visit my online exhibition of images taken from and
around Loughcaster!
What I suggest you do is run down to
your local "Beer off" even better if you run in your slippers
isn't that right
Mr.
Kay?
Grab a bottle of Blue Nun or a six pack of Skol, a bag of Walkers
crisps and a Walnut Whip, run home, sit down, relax and
view
the
exhibition
in the comfort of your own
living room. Best to pick a night when Coro's not on!
PS. Don't bother with my old "Beer Off" in Thomas Street
as it's
closed down now and the current residents who now live in the shop get really cheesed off when you barge into their living room and ask for
"Ten Park Drive" There for my Dad honest Guv! Actually I think they've
now bricked up the old door.
